“Enchanted Sicily” was the title Dolce & Gabbana Fall Winter 2014-2015 women’s fashion show gave their collection, but what we saw was actually a timely departure from the overtly folkloric tone of the duo’s recent collections. As wonderful as they have been, there was an inevitable sneaking suspicion that the Sicilian vein was nearing the moment when it would be well and truly tapped. Here were ten of the all-black, widow’s-weeds-y outfits that established Dolce&Gabbana’s fashion signature three decades ago, but they were like breathing spaces in a fantastic riot of fairies, princesses, owls, foxes, squirrels, and swans. There was even a frog for a princess to kiss. Sicily was still in the mix,  The island has been enough of a cross-cultural historical crossroads that you can basically pick an influence and run with it. The recurrent motif in the collection was the key that opened the door to a secret garden. For all the arcana of their inspiration, the clothes themselves managed to build a bridge to the real world, or at least a world real enough for a woman to wear an A-line tweed coat with a little appliqué, a skirt suit in deepest forest green, or even one of the beautiful Riding Hood capes. As a shortcut to escape while the world’s weather patterns surrender to globally warmed insanity, they could scarcely be more apt.

All of them were rendered in charmingly naive appliqués. As always i arrived at the theatre three hours before show time for meet head designer of womenswear explained to me the mood, inspiration and all details of the collection. He was very emotional when describing the details and i was really taken a back by the quality. I was spoiled for choice looks for the @Dolce&Gabbana women fashion show FW 2014/2015! I can’t wait to see some great shows FW 14 women fashion show! Well! Dress code: Total black! Should be always glamorous. Keeping these three keywords: Feminine, Elegant and Romantic. I try to creat to different ways to wear with Dolce&Gabbana adding my personal taste and mixing different things to create my own styling! Logically, couture shouldn’t be an easy sell in the current climate. “Dresses that cost the same as two Bentleys,” as one client put it during couture week in Paris. She didn’t seem terminally deterred. Still, one can see the problem. There’s also the question of where to wear these clothes, what with fewer balls, even among the Houston/Dallas/Dubai set.It was therefore mighty shrewd of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana to stage their third couture (or as Italians call it alta moda ) show in a couple of adjoining 15th-century Venetian palazzi overlooking the Grand Canal in front of a hand-picked audience of clients and their husbands. Those dizzyingly ornate interiors not only do justice to these clothes, they remind the super-rich that they have a responsibility to dress the part. It was clever, too, because the Biennale was a short vaporetto ride away. Designers know better than to draw comparisons between what they put on the catwalk and art. But the juxtaposition of couture and Venice’s cultural festival raises interesting questions about the intrinsic worth of objects. If it’s fine for a conceptual artist at the height of their career to dash off work that sells for millions, and accepted that a songwriter might be able to retire after one hit composed in half an hour, then really, where’s the problem in a 700-piece dress that took three months to construct and is the product of 40 years’ combined expertise, costing the same as a central London flat?Dolce&Gabbana’s latest couture show was a worthy match for its lavishly ornate surroundings in Venice.

Leaving aside for a moment the workmanship (or workwomanship: Dolce&Gabbana’s alta moda atelier, although only a year old, employs 80 seamstresses), the clothes in this collection are heart-stoppingly beautiful, even in rooms as gilded and laden with frescoes as the Palazzo Barbaro’s. Womanly, without ever veering into parody, they’re also classic yet utterly contemporary in their construction and sensuality. Even committed androgynous minimalists would find themselves seduced by the curve-enhancers here. While there’s a new silhouette to complement their beloved pencil and prom skirts – the short dress fitted narrowly over the torso and flares into a wide skirt – Dolce & Gabbana generally don’t stray far from the 1950s inspired codes of their house. Presumably that’s why they’ve reached such a stage of perfection. And this was pretty near perfect. Dolce & Gabbana may have been busy lately, what with one thing and another. But it doesn’t seem to have affected their work. This was more than the match of anything I saw at Paris’s couture shows – quite a feat considering they’ve only been making couture for three seasons. Lace, a house speciality, was cut into diamond shapes and sewn back together to make corseted, frothy skirted Harlequin dresses. Silks were hand-painted or screen-printed with Canaletto prints and layered over crisp tulle petticoats.

Cloaks (couture’s favourite new cover up) were sculpted from Venetian velvet woven with real gold thread or festooned with thousands of individually hand-sewn pearls. Ankle-length tulle or silk dresses were embellished with gold flowers. The gold was real, as were the diamonds and sapphires used for the stripes on the T-shirts of the gondoliers decorating a pair of earrings. Who knew this duo were such accomplished designers of fine jewellery? For all the lavish materials and traditional skills, these clothes never erred from their fundamental functions: to look good and seduce. Two of the standouts were a fitted, deceptively simple-looking grey cashmere skirt-suit and a plain black fitted wool dress with a sweetheart neckline. The dress sold, along with four other outfits, in the first 10 minutes after the show. When I peeked backstage, clients were queuing, either to place their order then and there or make an appointment for the following morning. These are one-offs. So buy now to avoid disappointment and don’t worry about where to wear them. They’ll look fabulous displayed alongside your art.

In an extensive interview to Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana, along with a succulent photo spread, Dolce&Gabbana and their SS12 collection are featured on the 6^th anniversary of the magazine.

As well as a feature interview to the designers, key items from the SS12 collection are displayed in all their glory. Fisherman’s net inspired jumper, a contemporary cut suit and a white tuxedo are all important elements of the maison’s style and the current collection.

After the initial meeting, we go to see the actual clothes to view the details and craftsmanship in every item.  As you’ve already seen, the FW13 collection is amazing! I can’t wait to tell you all its secrets on Swide.

While he was explaining the details of the collection to me he was visibly emotional. Its always lovely to see someone so passionate about their work.

In the backstage the atnosphere is electric, as the show is looming, but if you look around, there is always something funny going on. Here Ben Taylor, one of our Swide editors, is persuing the backstage with a camera taped to his hat. I wonder what its for??

My Break

The first portion of the collection was centered on the baroque easthetic with magnificient embroidery.

The second part was obviously romantic.

In a collection which looked at the craftsmanship traditions of the past, Dolce&Gabbana found a space for the craftsmanship of today.

As with the men’s collection, for FW13 Dolce&Gabbana have introduced a well loved yet sometimes forgotten type of outerwear

The romantic element of the collection was embodied in the needlepoint roses.

The highly anticipated spectacle of the Dolce&Gabbana fashion show did of course not disappoint.

Earlier this month I was honoured to be singled out to accompany Mr Dolce and Mr Gabbana on their tour to Seoul as their official translator. The design due headed to the Far East for an event packed trip, culminating with the grand opening of their boutique in Seoul. Here is second part of my diary of the trip with Designers.

6th November- I arrive at the    in Seoul, my home away from home for the next few days. The hotel is located at the centre of the city, with a view of the famed mega highways that run thorugh Seoul.  My room is on the 17th floor and is typically modern/minimalist.

The key of the room symbolises the marriage between old and new in Korea: an electronic card with an evocative image of an ancient pagoda.

Here is my masterfully planned wardrobe for my days in Seoul. Well. Almost masterful, i forgot to pack my sneakers- OMG!I had to wear heels non stop for 3 days.. and what heels!

After dinner with my colleagues I couldn’t resist to take a picture of the city by night. I love Seoul at night; lights shining like man made stars, a city than never sleeps.

7th November- my first day with the designers! We first visited the Dolce&Gabbana boutiques in Seoul, then we took to the sights. We stopped at a traditional Korean market, Namdea mon Market. Here is a typical Korean sweet- puffed rice with caramelised nuts.

Traditional Korean costumes (for kids). They’re very colourful ,and still today, they’re worn for New Years. Domenico loved the fabric.

One of the most touristy yet fascinating places we visited in the Gyeongbok Palace- It was first constructed in 1394 and later reconstructed in 1867. Its the largest of the Five Grand Palaces and literally, in English it means “Palace of Shining Happiness”.

After an afternoon of sightseeing we enjoyed a well deserved glass ofn wine all together before dinner.  Whilst having drinks Domenico quizzed me about what I thought of fashion bloggers. Being one myself, I could only speak positively, and he agreed with me.

After the drinks we headed to dinner to a luxurious restaurant called Bamboo where they serve Korean BBQ. Korean BBQ is an interesting variation where you cook your own meat at the table. The meat is then served with a variety of vegetables.

During dinner, Domenico told us about a TV series he loved, Mildred Pierce, which he watched before starting on his trip to Seoul. The way he told us about it made us dream.

8thNovember- In the morning the designers had a shoot with Vogue Korea, but after I accompanied them to lunch at bistrot Seoul.  The menu was scrumptious and it consiseted of Korean burger with soy seasoned ground beef and served with grilled rice gnocchi.

We also had a typical Korean dish of crab cackes and ce kimchi, vegetables seasoned with chilli, typically Korean.

The décor of the restaurant was traditional, including antique tea tables. As you can see, these tables are low, almost like stoods, as traditionally in Korea, as in most oc Asia tea is taken sitting on the floor.

And finally the piece de resistance of the whole trip arrived! The part at the Dolce&Gabbana boutique. Here is a quick snap of the designers in their party gear in the elevator at the hotel. I was nominated to enter with them at the party- I was so nervouw yet honoured. It was nervewraking to spend the evening alone with them, but it all went well,  they were surprisingly easy going.

Here I’m looking a bot lost at the event- I had like 10 roles to fulfill all at once. I needed to introduce the Korean celebrities to the designers with a brief bio of course. I also had to tweet and Pr for Swide.com. Also the Korean guests were a little taken aback by my almost naked ensemble. Heheh! But the Italians, inlcuding the designers approved.

I followed the designers like their shadow. Even though I was nervous I did my best to live up to the expectations at the event.

As well as doing PR for Swide, tweet and follow the designers and keep track of the Korean celebrities I was a blogger as well!

Choi Shi-Won  is a very attractive Korean pop star. During the event he was very attentive and curious about me, he asked me lots of personal questions. He didn’t quite realise I was old enough to be at least his aunt!!!

Always Tweeting! At some point my mobile phone gave up on me. In this picture I was trying to figure out what its problem was. My mother was just happy to have me in Korea! And mum, thanks for the Amazing earrings!!

He’s back again! He even wanted to take a picture with my whole family!

At the event corsets and evening gowns from the Dolce & Gabbana archives created a museum like atmosphere. I was beautiful.

WOW! The lights from the Dolce & Gabbana SS12 show were exported to Korea for the event!  The corsets and dresses from the SS12 collections were inspired by lights and fireworks.

Korean Actor Ju Jinmo. As soon as I saw him my heart almost exploded… I had to insist that the designers take a picture with him, he’s so famous in Korea.

At the end of the party, Domenico is asking me about some clubs he could go to afterwards. Even though he was tired he wanted to live the Korean nightlife!

There was even a market stall, just like the ones that gave the inspiration to the SS12 show.

The corsets and dresses from the SS12 collections were inspired by lights and fireworks.
